Normal Introduction:

Some people say that life in the city is better than that in the village. Others believe that village life is better. This is a controversial topic and there are many arguments for and against the topic. However, I agree with the statement that city life is actually better than life in the village.

This is a very simple and to-the-point introduction and is suitable for candidates targeting 6.0 or lower in IELTS.

You should note that this format of introduction is very common and can be used for any argumentative topic. Hence, scoring a high band with this is difficult.

Extraordinary Introduction:

If you want to write something OUTSTANDING to impress the examiner straightaway and achieve 7+ in IELTS, you should apply the following:

  1. Background Statement – Paraphrase the statement itself.
  2. Thesis Statement – State your opinion and introduce your ideas.

City offers a colourful and vibrant life which the village is yet to provide. Furthermore, cities furnish our everyday lives with all the contemporary facilities, comfort and entertainment in the world. Although there is no closer match for the lifestyle in cities, villages add a soothing freshness to it.
